Hello,

I hope someone might be able to help me here. Treating an 8 year old .have given LM of well indicated remedy. Had quick return of old symptoms then nothing for 10 days, so moved to LM2.

Marked reaction/aggravation of presenting symptoms happened at first dose of LM2, but kept dosing for 6 or 7 more days. Have told mum to stop, watch and wait. Of course, hoping this will settle aggravation. Concerned about how long and deep aggravation could be, and wonder about trying single barely succussed dose of lm one or similar in lm three or possibly highly succussed LM two. Have heard nothing, so should I just wait? Have dealt with aggravation on LMs before, but this was when dosing stopped as soon as aggravation occurred, whereas this time, dosing continued . Lesson to self , although all letters and forms given to patients re LMs state if intensification or aggravation of symptoms occur, stop remedy and contact for advice, I think I need to highlight this in bold!  All and any advice welcome. Thanks

You didn’t mention the name of the remedy or the current state of the patient.  If the situation is not tolerable you could use one of the antidotal remedies, selecting the one that best fits the aggravation symptoms.

Thanks for this. I gave Puls LM1 then LM2 which was when the aggravation immediately started. I had advised to stop remedy if intensification of symptoms occurs, but she was given another 6 doses of LM2 over 6 days. I then said to stop the remedy and watch for what happens. This was 6 days ago, but I’ve heard nothing since. Debating whether to contact family or wait for them to contact me? In effect, I don’t know if the aggravation is still there or settling. If it seems bad still, I was thinking of a single dose of either LM1, or LM3, if these don’t work, possibly highly succussed dose of LM2. After that thinking of antidote. Further advice gratefully received!

It seems that you can’t make any decision unless you know what’s going on. Is there an agg still?  If so, how bad is it? Do you need to stop the agg?  How do you move forward without that info?

Water solutions offer so many options of adjustment the dose to the patient. You can increase the intervals between the doses, change the number of succussions, reduce to dose of the water, change the way of preparation of the remedy. Hahnemann sometimes used to give the remedy from the sixth glass and used only a coffee-spoon( 2.5ml). To adjust the dose I keep constant contact with my patients (they write in an online diary). And I prepare the patient’s water solution Hahnemannian way. So, in a case like yours I would wait until the aggravation is gone and start again with LM2, but with a smaller dose, fewer number of succussions and with bigger interval between the doses (I’d start to give it every 3 or 4 days). Also I’d check the patient’s reaction daily for further adjustments.

Hello,

I heard from the family and after having stopped the remedy and waiting almost 3 weeks, the child remains almost completely deaf. I agreed with the mum that this was a long time to tolerate such an aggravation, so suggested trying single dose of LM2 highly succussed in the hope that this might lessen the aggravation whilst still allowing curative action to continue. The family were giving the dose 2 days ago and then going on holiday. Again, I haven’t heard from them, so don’t know what’s going on!!!  I also ask patients to keep in touch and also give instructions saying to stop the remedy if aggravation occurs. I also always suggest a single trial dose to check that the patient isn’t over sensitive before continuing on with any sort of regular dose. So here I am pondering again without knowing quite what’s going on. I do feel that the aggravation has gone on long enough, so would like to ease that if possible. Just wondering if the very highly succussed LM2 hasn’t helped, what would others do? Sit and wait it out (assuming that dose didn’t make the aggravation worse)? Go back down to LM1 & see whether that eases things or give a true “antidote” like chamomilla or carc? If so, what sort of dose? An LM or dry dose?

All and any advice gratefully received! With thanks
