Hi. I have a dental abscess underneath the jawbone on left mandible directly under 2nd molar bottom left. This tooth had broken over a year ago and fitted with an inlay. No noted recent clinical issues in the mouth. Have had no pain in tooth or abscess. Abscess was about 2cm diameter but has now flattened after bursting thru the skin and draining over the past two months. Now has some soft tissue sticking out of it. Am advised that tooth will need to be extracted, but wish to avoid this if at all possible.

Is there any Homeopathic solution for this situation?

Appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Hi Andy, Hope you are well. Thanks for this input and query.

After two months the abscess under the jawbone has now flattened out with only a very slight drain [at the most a couple of white paste like drops each 12hrs].  Twice a day I replace a loose band aid plaster on it to cover the soft tissue sticking out of the abscess skin.

Dentist’s opinion is that this problem will keep recurring & not resolve unless the cause, namely the tooth is removed. Yet to me the tooth is fine, no pain & I happily use it for chewing on, so am very reluctant to lose it. At this stage no indication of tooth fracture.

Do you feel that taking Silica would bring the abscess to a head and help it heal ? If not, then what else would you kindly recommend.

Thanks again. Have a lovely day.

Hi Alan,  { My apologies as I had inadvertently referred to you as Andy in my earlier mail above},

Hope you are well. Thanks for your input and query.

After over two months the abscess under the jawbone has now flattened out with no more draining but only some occasional blood  leakage from the soft tissue sticking out of the abscess.

Dentist’s opinion is that this problem will keep recurring & not resolve unless the cause, namely the tooth is removed. Yet to me the tooth is fine, with no pain & I happily use it for chewing on, so am very reluctant to loose it.  Also am at a loss on what to do about the soft tissue hanging out of the abscess.  Could you kindly advise on your recommendations.

Thanks again. Have a lovely weekend.

Hi Alan, {remembered your name correctly this time !}

Appreciate your response and suggestions. Will continue with Silica for now. Calendula & the indigo light therapy which seems to be an interesting option – will keep these on hold for later if necessary.

Dentist [& 2nd opinion from his colleague ] could not identify any clinical cause. The rather large size of the abscess [before it burst] and now the protruding soft tissue seemed quite unusual. However the tooth is suspect as the jaw abscess is directly under the 2nd molar which had an inlay fitted over a year ago with an inlay refit later last year when it had come off.

Am also shortly seeing a Maxillofacial Surgeon for his review and will advise on the outcome thereafter.

Many thanks for all your kind assistance.

Have a lovely day. regards

Hi Alan, Hope you are well. Comments noted and also I do appreciate your quick response (even on a Sunday!!).

[ Apologies for any confusion. Odd as I am now getting logged out when trying to post in the new thread but older thread is accepting the post.]

Seems I have done the reverse. More recently I’ve been using low potency of Silicea 6C and only now a few doses of high potency Hepar Sulph 200C when abscess seemed to have fully drained.

In terms of symptoms the following applies :-

  • Just recently have noticed an early morning strange feeling like a dull ache in this tooth that recovers within a few hours. No toothache as such.
  • No fever or sensitivity to hot/cold temperatures or to pressure from chewing/biting.
  • 3 months ago had a large [2cm] abscess under jaw, but it had burst and now has drained away and is flat (no bump). Protruding soft tissue is still there but has been shrinking and occasionally leaks some blood (& possibly mixed with puss not certain). Currently no swelling or pain in neck, face, cheek or lymph nodes.

I’d have thought a review of above symptoms indicates no real issue. To me it really does seem like it is slowly recovering, but x-ray still shows an infection is present so maybe need to find out how to clear this remaining infection.

Would certainly welcome further suggestions from you.

Thanks. Have a great day. Regards.
