Please help! My 6 year old Labrador (male) recently received his distemper/parvo vaccination and now he is having problems. He is experiencing awful painful skin sores on his rump and underneath his neck. He received his vaccination about a month ago and symptoms started soon thereafter.  Since then he was administered a round of prednisone and antibiotics which cleared up the symptoms, but clearly that was temporary, because a week after medications were ceased, the problem is back.  After reading online I found quite a few articles discussing “Vaccinosis” and it is clear that the vaccination has created this problem.  I need help and advice on a homeopathic treatment for my dog. PLEASE HELP! These skin sores are terribly painful and debilatating for him.  He cannot even get up and walk around without spazzing out and trying to twirl around to reach the painful irritated spots on his rump.

I have read that Thuja and Sulpher are two things you can give your dog for vaccinosis symptoms. Based on his symptoms, which should I use? Can I use them in conjunction? What are the doses and methods of administration? Does anyone have any anecdotal or case studies that they can direct me to for treatments of the situation/symptoms of which I described for post vaccination problems?

please help! Appreciate any information/direction.

Blessings,

Al

From what you describe, it sounds like the remedy Silica would be indicated. If it were my dog, I would give a dose of Silica 30c twice a day for three days and then wait and observe.  Most remedies come in either BB sized little balls or tiny sand-like grains.  A  small quantity of the tiny grains can be tossed on the dogs inner gums or in his mouth.  If you get the BB size remedy, crushed three of them between two clean soup spoons and toss on the dogs inner gums or in his mouth.  If the dog is given any more steroids, it will probably keep the remedy from working. So try to avoid that if possible.

I will also send your question to Dr. Khalsa and she will respond in next month’s journal.

Thank you for your reply Alan. I made an appointment with a hollistic/homeopathic for later this week. This is obviously a oretty serious situation with my dog, because as it seems, it appears he has developed an auto-immune disorder where his own immune system is now hyperactive and attacking his own skin tissue. I am just horribly upset at this point that it was a vaccination that caused this and it was, I in essence who introduced such a serious ailment into my dog. After the reading I have done on the topic in the last several days, I am just upset and appalled that vaccinations are so readily given to dogs without warnings of the problems they can and do regularly cause, not to mention the many studies of the actual need and effectiveness of these vaccinations, so that owners can make an informed decision. My dog is now a statistic and may be dealing with a serious auto immune disorder for the rest of his life!

Thanks again for your reply and I would appreciate any other input from you and any other members on suggestions and treatment options as it pertains to my dogs symptoms.  Eventhough I am due to talk to a homeopathic vet soon, I would like as much input as possible to the correct course of treatment so that I may do my due diligence and also to use the knowledge here as a sounding board as to whether my homeopath is prescribing an effective course of action.

thanks in advance to any and all who care to comment.

Blessings,

Al
